System Requirements for Operating Systems

BeOS 5 for Intel Architecture

• 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
• 32 megabytes of RAM.
• An IDE or SCSI hard disk or hard disk partition with 200 megabytes of space (or 600 MB of disk space free on C: for BeOS 5 Personal Edition).
• An IDE/ATAPI or SCSI CD-ROM drive.
• A graphics card capable of VESA graphics.
• USB, PS/2, or serial connected mouse and keyboard.

BeOS 5 for PowerPC

• PowerPC Processor.
• 32 megabytes of RAM minimum, more recommended.
• 150 megabyte hard disk or hard disk partition (SCSI or IDE). Running on a 100 meg partition, e.g., on a Zip drive is possible but not recommended.
• CD-ROM drive (SCSI or IDE).
• Keyboard and mouse compatible with your hardware. ADB mouse and keyboard for Macintosh compatible systems, serial or PS/2 mouse and standard PC-style keyboard for BeBox systems. A two (or more) button mouse is recommended. An extended keyboard is recommended.
• Built-in or bundled graphics circuitry or card.
• Multisync monitor strongly recommended.
• Network connection via Ethernet or PPP (modem, serial ISDN, etc.) recommended.

Corel Linux

• Pentium or Pentium-compatible processor.
• 24 MB RAM (64 MB RAM recommended).
• 500 MB of hard disk space.
• CD-ROM drive.
• 2 MB VGA PCI card.
• Mouse.

Mac OS 8.6

• iMac, Power Macintosh G3, Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White), Any Power Macintosh, PowerBook, or Workgroup Server computer with a 4-digit model number.
• 190 MB to 250 MB free disk space (full install of Mac OS 8.5 and Mac OS 8.6 Update), or 50 MB free disk space when only updating with Mac OS 8.6 Update.
• At least 24 megabytes (MB) of random-access memory (RAM) installed; 32 MB is recommended.

Mac OS 9.1

• Mac OS-based Apple computer with a PowerPC processor (PowerPC upgrade cards and 680X0 processors are NOT supported. See note below). Mac OS X Server IS NOT supported (MacOS.app). NetBoot images on Mac OS X Server are supported, but require a Mac OS 9 license for each NetBoot client.
• 150 MB to 250 MB for an easy install (though a universal install can be up to 400 MB) of free disk space, depending on options selected, and drive size and format.
• 40 MB of RAM (32 MB of physical RAM, with virtual memory set to at least 40 MB).
• The minimum amount of RAM will let the computer perform only at minimum speeds. Installing additional RAM will increase the system performance.

Mac OS X

• Power Mac G4 ( Power Mac G4 - 5-Slot, Power Mac G4 - AGP Graphics, Power Mac G4 - PCI Graphics, Macintosh Server G4, Power Mac G4 Cube).
• iMac( iMac (Bondi Blue), iMac (5 Flavors), iMac DV, iMac/iMac DV+/DV SE (slot loading), iMac (CD-RW)).
• PowerBook( PowerBook G4, PowerBook G3 Series, PowerBook G3 (USB), PowerBook G3 (USB & FireWire)).
• iBook( iBook, iBook SE, iBook (FireWire), iBook SE (FireWire)).
• Power Mac G3( Power Macintosh G3 (All-In-One, Desktop, Mini Tower, Server), Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White), (processor upgrade cards not supported)).
• 128MB of Memory (RAM) is recommended for using Mac OS X.
• At least 1.5 GB of available space on your hard drive.

Mandrake Linux 8.0

• Pentium-compatible CPU.
• 64 MB RAM for graphical interface (32 MB for text installation).
• 500 MB available disk (800 MB recommended).

Windows 2000 Advanced Server

• 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
• 256 MB of RAM recommended minimum (128 MB minimum supported; 8 GB maximum).
• 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 1.0 GB free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.).
• Supports up to eight CPUs on one machine.

Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

• Pentium III Xeon processors or higher.
• 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended.
• 2 gigabyte (GB) hard disk with a minimum of 1 GB free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.).
• CD-ROM or DVD drive.
• VGA or higher resolution monitor.
• 8-way capable or higher server (supports up to 32-way)( Note: Fault-tolerant system configurations are required to have at least 8 processors within the hardware solution).

Windows 2000 Professional

• 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
• 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness.
• 2GB hard disk with a minimum of 650MB of free space.
• Supports single and dual CPU systems.

Windows 2000 Server

• 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
• 256 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum [128 MB minimum supported; 4 gigabytes (GB) maximum].
• 2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 1.0 GB free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.).
• Supports up to four CPUs on one machine.

Windows 95

• 386DX or higher processor (486 recommended).
• 4 megabytes (MB) of memory (8 MB recommended).

• Typical installation requires approximately 205 MB of available hard-disk space (includes 45 MB average for backup files during installation), but may range between 140 MB and 315 MB, depending upon system configuration and options selected.
